Read Easy Weston-super-Mare
About our group:
Thank you for visiting our page!
We are Read Easy Weston-super-Mare and we cover the whole town from Uphill to Worle. Our Read Easy group is recently established and we are looking forward to enabling people to learn to read in 2020 and beyond.
Read Easy W-S-M is run entirely by volunteers under the headship of Read Easy UK. Our Team Leader is Tim Bull and you can contact him for any further information and queries you may have. Alternatively for help finding a suitable coach, contact our Coordinator Sue Burrows, see above.
If we’re your nearest group, here are some ways to be involved:
Learn to read:
One-to-one coaching takes place twice a week for 30 minutes per session in a safe and semi-private space. You must be over 18 years of age and have a good standard of spoken English. We provide all the reading materials you need and the service is completely free.
If you, or someone you know, lives in Weston-Super-Mare and would like to learn to read then please do get in touch with Tim or Sue Burrows on one of the numbers above and they will be happy to take you through the application process.
Become a Coach:
What do Coaches do? After a one day training workshop, Coaches are matched with a suitable Reader. Coaches then meet with their Reader twice a week for 30 minutes at a time. We provide all the materials needed and offer our Coaches regular support throughout.
Helping someone to read is an extremely rewarding task and our Coaches are highly valued. If you are interested in volunteering with us please contact our Volunteer Recruiter, Sue Hobson, by email – details in the box above.
Other volunteering opportunities:
Our group is also often looking for volunteers to join our Management Team or become Coordinators. Please see the Group News below for current opportunities.
Read Easy Weston-Super-Mare is a new group so we’d be grateful for any donations. If you might be able to offer us a venue, for training or reading sessions, we’d love to hear from you. If these are not possible, simply spreading the word would be great at this stage.

Our group is still alive and kicking! The various lockdowns forced us to suspend our recently-started coaching sessions, but we have adapted to the new conditions and we are now running remote coaching for anyone who struggles with reading.
What is remote coaching?
Where Coaches and Readers are unable to meet face-to-face (due to COVID or other constraints) they can successfully carry out coaching sessions remotely. This may involve coaching over the phone (with the Coach and Reader following identical reading manuals, flashcards, etc) or more commonly over a video platform such as Zoom where the participants can share paper or electronic material.
Thanks to the generous support of Read Easy UK, the Quartet Community Foundation and Weston-super-Mare Town Council, we have the resources to provide tablet computers for Readers who don’t have access to a suitable device. Meanwhile, we continue to explore safe options for a resumption of face-to-face coaching for those Readers who need it.
For more info about learning to read with us please contact our Coordinator Sue Burrows firstname.lastname@example.org
