About our group:

Thank you for visiting our page!

We are Read Easy Weston-super-Mare and we cover the whole town from Uphill to Worle. Our Read Easy group is recently established and we are looking forward to enabling people to learn to read in 2020 and beyond.

Read Easy W-S-M is run entirely by volunteers under the headship of Read Easy UK. Our Team Leader is Tim Bull and you can contact him for any further information and queries you may have. Alternatively for help finding a suitable coach, contact our Coordinator Sue Burrows, see above.

If we’re your nearest group, here are some ways to be involved:

Learn to read:

One-to-one coaching takes place twice a week for 30 minutes per session in a safe and semi-private space.  You must be over 18 years of age and have a good standard of spoken English.  We provide all the reading materials you need and the service is completely free.

If you, or someone you know, lives in Weston-Super-Mare and would like to learn to read then please do get in touch with Tim or Sue Burrows on one of the numbers above and they will be happy to take you through the application process.

Become a Coach:

What do Coaches do? After a one day training workshop, Coaches are matched with a suitable Reader. Coaches then meet with their Reader twice a week for 30 minutes at a time. We provide all the materials needed and offer our Coaches regular support throughout.

Helping someone to read is an extremely rewarding task and our Coaches are highly valued.  If you are interested in volunteering with us please contact our Volunteer Recruiter, Sue Hobson, by email – details in the box above.

Other volunteering opportunities:

Our group is also often looking for volunteers to join our Management Team or become Coordinators. Please see the Group News below for current opportunities.

Support us!

Read Easy Weston-Super-Mare is a new group so we’d be grateful for any donations. If you might be able to offer us a venue, for training or reading sessions, we’d love to hear from you. If these are not possible, simply spreading the word would be great at this stage.

Group News:

Reluctantly, we have suspended coaching sessions and enrolments to minimise the risk of COVID-19 infection to our volunteers, Readers and the wider community. We will resume operations as soon as it is prudent to do so.

We are delighted to have a group of coaches who newly joined us at the beginning of 2020. Meetings with readers started for a few weeks and then we were hit with lockdown which has unfortunately temporarily put a halt to our face – to – face meetings. As we wait with the rest of the world to see what direction the pandemic will take us, we have been keeping our social media active and are hopeful things will improve!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Quartet Community Foundation for their donation in support of Read Easy WSM. We are also grateful to the Rotary Club of Weston Super Mare and Wave Community Radio station for their support in promoting the services available, as well as the above venues for allowing us to use their spaces, especially to Weston College for hosting our first training session earlier this year.
