We wish all our readers and volunteers a very happy New Year and hope that many more people will learn to read in 2016. Exciting plans for expanding the number and locations of our Read Easy groups this year include:
- Five new Pioneer groups to affiliate in Taunton North, Tewkesbury, Neath, Newmarket and Cambridge.
- Regional support for readers in London now that research on the scale of the need there has been carried out.
- Consolidation and ongoing support of existing groups to sustain the high quality of coaching provided and reaching out into communities to find new readers.
If one of your New Year resolutions is to read more books, you might find the following article interesting by Hannah Sander, a journalist for BBC News Magazine – here’s the link: hhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35261648
We will soon be launching a couple of new short films on the successes of two women who have learned to read with the support of volunteer coaches from Read Easy. Keep an eye on our website, coming soon!
Many congratulations to Read Easy Peterborough- they have raised £446 in December thanks to the shoppers in Waitrose, who have used the green tokens given out at the check-out to vote for them. This is a great fundraising idea which other groups have used in the past and new groups might consider – just go to the Community Matters part of the Waitrose website for the form to fill in.
