Current volunteering opportunities:

The Cornwall group is a year old and our workload is increasing. The group covers a huge area, and we are seeking to fill the following roles:

  • Local Coordinator - St Austell & Newquay
  • Local Coordinator - Liskeard & Saltash
  • Local Coordinator - Truro & Falmouth
  • Publicity Organiser

As we cover all of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, we need to maintain a list of potential volunteers especially those interested in undertaking the role of Reading Coach. If you think this might be you, are willing for us to keep your details on file, and happy to wait until we have a need in your particular area, please contact the Volunteer Recruiter using the contact details above or complete a form using the ‘Enquire now’ button.

If you would like to find out more about each of our volunteer roles click here.

About our group:

This group set up in September 2022.

Read Easy Cornwall covers all of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Read Easy groups are financially independent from Read Easy UK, and we are responsible for raising all the money needed to keep our group going. If you would like to support our work, please get in touch to find out how.

Read Easy Cornwall was the first Read Easy group to be established to cover a whole county. The group intends to build on the experience gained during the Covid 19 pandemic by using video-conferencing for management.

With a low population (around 530,000) and well-spread, the group will operate with three areas – West, Mid and East – as shown on the map above, to minimise travel time and cost.

The Skills for Life Survey (2011) statistics showing that 7.7% (24,807) adults in Cornwall could benefit from the Read Easy programme. However, data about the location of adults who would benefit from our support is vague, though there is evidence that the percentage is higher for those in rural communities.

Group Supporters:

We would like to thank the following organisations for supporting us:

  • Cornwall Community Foundation
  • Cornwall Council Community Chest
  • St Ewe’s Quiz Club (at The Crown, St Ewe)
  • The National Lottery Community Fund (Awards for All)
