About the group:

Read Easy Wyre Forest was established in June 2018. Like other Read Easy Groups up and down the country, we recruit and train volunteer reading coaches who are then paired with adults who want to learn to read.

New readers

As a new reader, you will be coached on a confidential, one-to-one basis at your own pace, building your reading skills, your confidence and self-esteem.

You will usually meet up with your reading coach twice a week for a 30 minute session in a local, approved, safe location. All the reading materials you need are provided and there is no charge for the service.

You need to be over 18 years of age and have a good standard of spoken English.

If you, or someone you know, would like to learn to read then please get in touch with our scheme Coordinator, Liz, on the number shown above and she’ll be happy to answer any questions and explain the simple application process.

Volunteering to be a reading coach

You do not need to have any teaching experience, just an ability to read fluently. You should also be understanding and supportive, encouraging, patient and reliable .

Training is provided as are all the materials that you need. The Reading Coach team meets up regularly and you are supported both by the scheme Coordinator and our Literacy Specialist.

Helping someone to read is an extremely rewarding task, so if you live in the Wyre Forest or Cleobury Mortimer area and this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please do contact Liz on the number shown above or email her. She will be able to answer any questions and arrange to let you have a Reading Coach role description and an application form.

Join the Management Team

Our small Management Team, currently six strong, supports the work of the scheme Coordinator, the Reading Coaches and local people who want to improve their reading.

We are an enthusiastic collective from a variety of backgrounds, with different skills and experience. Although we each take a lead in specific areas of responsibility, we work as a team, we are mutually supportive and we all roll our sleeves up and get stuck in when it comes to fundraising events, training and spreading the word about what Read Easy does.

If you think you might be interested in joining the Management Team, call the Team Leader, Steve Peckham, on 07867 745621 or email him at: wyreforest@readeasy.org.uk

Group News:

February 2020

We’re recruiting reading coaches.

2019 was our first full year of helping adults learn to read in the Wyre Forest and Cleobury Mortimer area.

All our active reading coaches are currently paired with new readers and we are therefore now looking to recruit a few more Reading Coaches to the team. If you’re interested, call Liz on the number shown above; or email her.

We’re looking for a Second Coordinator

More reading coaches means more help needed to support the reading coach team. We’re looking for someone to help our existing Coordinator, Liz, to administer and run our local scheme on a day to day basis. It’s a vital role; demanding, but rewarding.

If you think you might be interested, call Liz on

07895 847728  for a chat about the role and for a role description and application form; or email her at: liz3@readeasy.org.uk

Management Team vacancies

To build on our initial success, we now need to add another two or three members to the Management Team. We work flexibly, trying to tailor tasks to our individual skills and available time. We welcome all applications, but would be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who is attracted to any of the following roles –

Treasurer – we’re a small group with a limited annual turnover of funds (under £4k), so this isn’t a particularly onerous role.

PR/Social media – we need someone to raise our profile generally and on social media in particular; collating and posting updates/photos etc. Could be a role for a ‘friend’ of Read Easy Wyre Forest if preferred.

Fundraiser – we all tend to pitch in with fundraising, but it would be great to have someone to take a lead, develop a strategy and prepare funding applications or plans for fundraising events.

Call Steve Peckham on 07867 745621 or email wyreforest@readeasy.org.uk for a chat or for more information about the roles and how the team works.
